As Partner at MVRDV, architect and urban planner Wenchian Shi (1975, Shanghai, China) leads the firm’s Asia Studio. She received a Bachelor’s degree in architecture from the Shanghai Tongji University, followed by a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from Delft University of Technology in 2002. Prior to joining MVRDV in 2004, Wenchian worked at OMA, contributing to the design of the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing. In 2008, after four years working at MVRDV, she became a project leader, overseeing work in China, Taiwan, Korea, and Singapore.
Wenchian has developed extensive experience in collaborating with clients and consultants in both Asia and Europe, and has worked at all scales of architecture and urban planning including housing, offices, retail, and cultural institutions. Projects she has lead at MVRDV include the Tianjin Binhai Library, the Seoullo 7017 Skygarden, The Imprint, and two major upcoming projects in China and Taiwan, the Vanke 3D City and Taipei Twin Towers. “Working at MVRDV is such a dynamic experience”, she says. “The culture of the office, the people I work with, and of course the variety and ambition of the projects we create – these things make every day surprising and exciting.”
