How can architects and designers create projects with distinct identities that embrace their context, community and connections? MVRDV founding partner Jacob van Rijs speaks about searching for the right identity for a project at the International Conference on Blurred Boundaries on September 24.

Founding partner and principal architect Jacob van Rijs is renowned for his dedication to bold concepts combining daring ideas with a humane and user-friendly approach. Van Rijs has developed this approach over the past 30 years in practice, leading to a wide range of the office’s most notable projects, from cultural and civic buildings to transformations, and from residential buildings and social housing to interiors. Van Rijs combines this practice with a position as Professor of Architectural Design at the Technical University of Berlin, Germany. In addition to academics, Van Rijs is also engaged in the profession on a broader scale, in juror assignments, and board memberships, including the Dutch Trade and Investment Board.

In today's interconnected global realm, as boundaries of imagined nation-states become obscure, we are constantly at the brink of losing our identities and breaking away from our diverse cultural roots. Can we in some way reinvent our transforming identities for a responsible, responsive and resilient way forward? The International Conference on the theme: ‘Blurred Boundaries: In Search of an Identity’ is organized to discuss this topic.

The 3-day online conference, organized by the SMEF’s Brick School of Architecture, intends to bring together academicians, practicing professionals and students of architecture, design and connected disciplines in an active sharing of knowledge and perspectives within the theme.
